Unit I – Digit Values

This maths scheme of work for Key Stage Two gets the children to explore and model how the place value of the digits in numbers change when multiplied and divided by ten and one hundred. The class can use concrete equipment and diagrams to illustrate how digits change their place value for each calculation.

Explore and model how the place value of the digits in different numbers change when multiplied and divided by ten and one hundred

Lesson One : Quick Multiplication

Identify and record changes to the place value of the digits in different numbers when they have been multiplied by ten

Lesson Two : Hundreds and Hundreds

Practise multiplying different numbers by one hundred and record changes to the place value of their digits following each calculation

Lesson Three : Division Changes

Model and record changes that can happen to the place value of the digits in different numbers when they have been divided by ten

Lesson Four : Shrinking Numbers

Investigate and record changes to the place value of digits in different numbers when they have been divided by one hundred

Lesson Five : Number Changes

Identify and record if different pairs of numbers have been multiplied or divided by ten or one hundred by examining the place value of their digits
