Lesson Five – Household Shapes

This maths teaching pack for Key Stage One gets the children to investigate how to identify and make lists of some special items used in family households to match the individual properties of different 3D shapes.
The class can explain and record how the identified shapes are the same or different in terms of their numbers of edges and vertices and types of faces for their sets of properties.
Download this teaching pack including a lesson plan, classroom activities and an interactive presentation to investigate how to identify and make lists of some special items used in family households to match the individual properties of different 3D shapes
Activities in this teaching pack include sets of differentiated cards to practise making and recording lists of different 3D shapes using descriptions of their matching properties that can match some of the special items that can be used in a family household for a range of functions.
The interactive presentation gets the children to explore how to make lists of household items to match the properties of some different 3D shapes.
This lesson is part of a maths scheme of work to get the children to identify, describe and compare a range of different 3D shapes by their matching properties including their number of faces, edges and vertices. There are teaching activities for shared learning, differentiated worksheets to support independent learning and interactive presentations to introduce concepts and key skills.
