Lesson Four – Shape Vertices

This maths teaching pack for Key Stage One gets the children to explain and illustrate how to record and describe a range of different 3D shapes by their matching number of vertices as part of each shape’s unique properties.
The class can practise making models of some different 3D shapes and complete sentences to show how they can be the same or different in terms of their vertices.
Download this teaching pack including a lesson plan, classroom activities and an interactive presentation to explain and illustrate how to record and describe a range of different 3D shapes by their matching number of vertices as part of each shape’s unique properties
Activities in this teaching pack include a worksheet to record how to complete sentences to show how 3D shapes can be the same or different in terms of their vertices and a set of cards to make and label models of different 3D shapes to illustrate their individual properties.
The interactive presentation gets the children to explore how to record and describe a range of different 3D shapes by their matching number of vertices.
This lesson is part of a maths scheme of work to get the children to identify, describe and compare a range of different 3D shapes by their matching properties including their number of faces, edges and vertices. There are teaching activities for shared learning, differentiated worksheets to support independent learning and interactive presentations to introduce concepts and key skills.
-
Labelling Bicycles
Develop and refine word processing skills when labelling and organising different parts and equipment that can be used when riding a bicycle
-
Garden Sculpture
Select and use different materials to mould and shape sculptures representing a range of artefacts that might be used in a family garden location
-
Witch’s Cauldron
Select and write sets of instructions that a witch can follow when making a range of potions for casting different spells
