Lesson Six – Night Walking

This curriculum topic teaching pack for the Foundation Stage gets the children to identify, describe and classify a range of reflective materials that can be used on shoes when walking at night so that the wearer is visible to traffic.
The class can practise sorting different materials into matching sets of groups based on their individual properties such as for rough and smooth and hard and soft.

Activities in this teaching pack include display posters to identify and describe the properties of different materials, a set of cards to select and sort a range of different shoes into matching groups by their material properties and templates to record a shiny object or material that can be used for a specific function and the design for a shoe that is suitable for walking outside at nighttime.
The interactive presentation gets the children to explore a range of reflective materials to use on shoes when walking at night.
This lesson is part of a curriculum topic scheme of work to get the children to investigate, compare and test some of materials that can be used to make different types of footwear that are used for a range of functions. There are teaching activities for shared learning, differentiated worksheets to support independent learning and interactive presentations to introduce concepts and key skills.
