Lesson Three – Tasting Tomatoes

This design technology teaching pack for Key Stage One gets the children to investigate and make comparisons between some different types of tomatoes by their special appearances, textures and tastes.
The class can explain and suggest why certain types of foods are used for different meals and snacks such as using some salad vegetable for sandwich fillings.

Activities in this teaching pack include display posters to identify and define special vocabulary words that can be used to describe different types of food and a template to select and record information about appearance, texture and taste of some different types of tomatoes.
The interactive presentation can be used to explore and make comparisons between different types of tomatoes by their appearance, texture and taste.
This lesson is part of a design technology scheme of work to get the children to select and prepare a range of different foods to use when following a recipe to make a sandwich for a picnic. There are teaching activities for shared learning, differentiated worksheets to support independent learning and interactive presentations to introduce concepts and key skills.
