Lesson One – Adding Hundreds

This maths teaching pack for Key Stage Two gets the children to explain and model how to use different facts about numbers and the technique of counting on to add pairs of multiples of one hundred together.
The class can identify and illustrate how to use the place value of the numerical digits in a number to support addition calculations for multiples of one hundred to one thousand.
Download this teaching pack including a lesson plan, classroom activities and an interactive presentation to explain and model how to use different facts about numbers and the technique of counting on to add pairs of multiples of one hundred together
Activities in this teaching pack include a set of differentiated worksheets to identify and record how to add pairs of multiples of one hundred including crossing one thousand for core and extension ability levels and not crossing one thousand for support ability levels using number facts and counting on.
The interactive presentation gets the children to explore how to use number facts and counting on to add pairs of multiples of one hundred.
This lesson is part of a maths scheme of work to get the children to practise and refine different techniques for addition using facts about numbers to support mental calculations including adding multiples of hundreds and tens and utilising number bonds. There are teaching activities for shared learning, differentiated worksheets to support independent learning and interactive presentations to introduce concepts and key skills.
