Lesson Four – Growing Plants

This science teaching pack for Key Stage One gets the children to select and conduct different tests to identify and record what happens to plants when they have been grown with no air, water or sunlight.

The class can practise growing runner bead seeds and explore some of the different factors that might affect the growth of the plants when one variable has been removed.

Download this teaching pack including a lesson plan, classroom activities and an interactive presentation to select and conduct different tests to identify and record what happens to plants when they have been grown with no air, water or sunlight

Activities in this teaching pack include display posters to identify, locate and describe each of the main parts that can be found on a flowering plant, a set of cards to conduct different tests to identify what happens to plants when grown with no air, water or sunlight and a template to predict and record what might happen to plants when grown with a missing variable.

The interactive presentation can be used to explore how to conduct different tests to identify what happens to plants when grown with no air, water or sunlight.

This lesson is part of a science scheme of work to get the children to identify and describe the basic structure of a variety of common flowering plants and investigate and test how to support plant growth. There are teaching activities for shared learning, differentiated worksheets to support independent learning and interactive presentations to introduce concepts and key skills.
