Lesson One – What Plants

This science teaching pack for Key Stage One gets the children to locate, identify and describe some of the different types of plants and flowers that can be found in locations around the school grounds.
The class can suggest and record how to differentiate between a range of different plants by their shapes, colours and sizes using the correct vocabulary words.

Activities in this teaching pack include display posters to name and describe the appearance of some different wild and garden plants and a worksheet to identify and record where to find examples of common wild and garden plants that can be found around the school grounds.
The interactive presentation can be used to explore some of the different types of plants and flower that can be found around the school grounds.
This lesson is part of a science scheme of work to get the children to identify and describe the basic structure of a variety of common flowering plants and investigate and test how to support plant growth. There are teaching activities for shared learning, differentiated worksheets to support independent learning and interactive presentations to introduce concepts and key skills.
