Kitchen Masses

This maths scheme of work for Key Stage One gets the children to identify and record how to measure, calculate and compare the masses of different things used in a kitchen working with units in grams and kilograms. The class can use bucket balances and kitchen scales to compare the mass of foods.

Cake Recipes
Identify and record how to calculate one half of different food measurements in grams by using some number calculations for division or repeated subtraction

Fruit Masses
Investigate and record how to compare the mass of different types of fruit stored in a kitchen using non-standard measurements, key vocabulary words and weight recorded in grams

Kitchen Scales
Practise using a set of kitchen scales correctly to measure and compare the mass of different foods that have been stored in a kitchen working with units in grams

Identify, match and record the initial sounds that have been used in a range of cvc words beginning with different letters

Investigate and record how a selection of different toys and games that were owned by families have changed and developed over time

Subtraction Digits
Model and illustrate how to subtract pairs of single digit numbers within ten using concrete equipment and diagrams to support the subtraction calculations
