Lesson One – Castle Construction

This history teaching pack for Key Stage One gets the children to identify and describe some of the main construction features and structures that were used to build a castle in the past.

The class can build and label a model of a castle to name and describe the function of each of the different parts of the building such as the keep or drawbridge.

Activities in this teaching pack include display posters to identify and describe different parts used in the construction of a castle and a set of cards to select and label some of the different parts of a castle that have been added to a construction model.

The interactive presentation gets the children to explore some of the main construction parts of a castle by producing and labelling a model.

This lesson is part of a history scheme of work to get the children to identify, describe and record some of the special ways that castles were built and inhabited by different groups of people in the past. There are teaching activities for shared learning, differentiated worksheets to support independent learning and interactive presentations to introduce concepts and key skills.
