Lesson Five – Castle Entertainment

This history teaching pack for Key Stage One gets the children to investigate, describe and role-play some of the different ways of entertaining the lord and lady who lived and ruled in a castle in the past.

The class can use drama to practise telling jokes and singing poems to entertain the court of a castle to illustrate how people lived and worked in the past.

Activities in this teaching pack include shared reading texts to describe specific types of jobs that were performed in a castle in the past and worksheets to role-play the jobs of a jester and minstrel that could be performed in a castle to entertain the lord and lady in the past.

The interactive presentation gets the children to explore some of the different ways to entertain the lord and lady of a castle in the past.

This lesson is part of a history scheme of work to get the children to identify, describe and record some of the special ways that castles were built and inhabited by different groups of people in the past.
