Lesson One – Farm Map

This geography teaching pack for Key Stage One gets the children to devise and present a map to name and record some of the different animals and buildings that can be found on a farm in the countryside.
The class can select shapes to represent farm locations on a map and use the correct position vocabulary to describe the location of different buildings and animals.

Activities in this teaching pack include display posters to identify symbols that can be used to represent animals on a map of a farm, a vocabulary word bank to create a map showing some of the buildings and animals that can be found on a farm and a set of cards to use when creating a map of a farm.
The interactive presentation gets the children to explore how to create a map to record some of the different animals and buildings that can be found on a farm.
This lesson is part of a geography scheme of work to get the children to identify, describe and compare the location and function of farms in relation to other places and activities including food production using crops and animals. There are teaching activities for shared learning, differentiated worksheets to support independent learning and interactive presentations to introduce concepts and key skills.
