Lesson One – Castle Parts

This design technology teaching pack for Key Stage One gets the children to identify and describe the function of some of the different parts of a castle as preparation for model making using a range of materials.

Activities in this teaching pack include display posters to identify and describe the appearance and function of different parts of a castle and a set of cards to name and label different parts of a castle and their matching functions on an illustration.
The interactive presentation gets the children to explore how to identify and describe the function of different parts of a castle as preparation for model making.
This lesson is part of a design technology scheme of work to get the children to explore and model some of the different shapes and techniques that can be used to construct a model of a castle showing the main parts and their functions. There are teaching activities for shared learning, differentiated worksheets to support independent learning and interactive presentations to introduce concepts and key skills.
