Lesson Five – Castle Attack

This history teaching pack for Key Stage One gets the children to practise identifying, describing and building an example model of a weapon that was used to attack a castle by an army in the past.
The class can explain and record how some different weapons could have been used to attack each part of a castle such as using a battering ram for the door or a trebuchet for the walls.

Activities in this teaching pack include display posters to identify and describe different ways of attacking a castle, a worksheet to identify and record some of the different materials that were used to build an object from the past and a template to label a model of an object from the past to describe how it was used to attack a castle.
The interactive presentation can be used to explore how to identify, describe and build a model of a weapon that was used to attack a castle in the past.
This lesson is part of a history scheme of work to get the children to investigate and record different ways that castles were constructed and located in the past to provide protection to the inhabitants and local community.
