Lesson Two – Printing Shapes

This art and design teaching pack for Key Stage One gets the children to investigate and practise some of the different ways of printing repeating patterns using a range of shapes that can be be used for the design of a flag.
The class can practising creating and recording designs of repeating patterns that might be used on flags flown over a castle to represent different themes and ideas.

Activities in this teaching pack include display posters to identify and describe some of the shapes and colours that have been used on different flags and a set of cards to select and record a range of different shape patterns to use in printed flag designs for castles.
The interactive presentation can be used to some of the different ways of printing repeating patterns using a range of shapes to produce flag designs.
This lesson is part of an art and design scheme of work to get the children to explore and test different methods of printing shapes and patterns that can be used to make the design for a flag to fly on top of a castle. There are teaching activities for shared learning, differentiated worksheets to support independent learning and interactive presentations to introduce concepts and key skills.
