Lesson Four – Caterpillar Changes

This literacy teaching pack for the Foundation Stage gets the children to practise sequencing some different events from a story with patterned language to show how a caterpillar as the main character changes by the end of the narrative.

Activities in this teaching pack include display posters to identify and describe the main stages in the life cycle of a butterfly, a set of cards to group sets of cvc words that have the same matching initial letters and worksheets to record and sequence some of the special foods that they can eat on different days of the week.
The interactive presentation gets the children to explore how to sequence different story events to show how a caterpillar as the main character changes by the end of the story.
This lesson is part of a literacy scheme of work to get the children to investigate examples of patterned language used to sequence events in a story about a caterpillar and learn the names and sounds for each letter of the alphabet. There are teaching activities for shared learning, differentiated worksheets to support independent learning and interactive presentations to introduce concepts and key skills.
