Lesson Three – Temperature

This curriculum topic teaching pack for the Foundation Stage gets the children to explore, test and describe some of the changes that can happen to water resulting from cold weather during the winter season.

The class can identify and record the sequence of actions as to how water can freeze into ice when left outside in cold weather and then change state back into water when brought inside.

Activities in this teaching pack include display posters to identify and describe treads used on shoes and boots, a set of cards to sequence changes that can occur to water at different temperatures and a template to select and use materials to build a shoe tread to support walking across icy ground.

The interactive presentation gets the children to explore and test changes to water resulting from cold weather during the winter.

This lesson is part of a curriculum topic scheme of work to get the children to explore how the weather changes during winter and its effect on the natural world including how water can freeze and turn to ice when the temperature falls below zero. There are teaching activities for shared learning, differentiated worksheets to support independent learning and interactive presentations to introduce concepts and key skills.
