Lesson Five – School Landscape

This art and design teaching pack for Key Stage Two gets the children to practise creating a painting of the school’s landscape working with some special colour shades to reflect and depict a special time of the day.
The class can explore and record how to mix paint to select some colour shades that might be visible in the sky over the school at a specific time of the day such as sunrise or sunset.

Activities in this teaching pack include display posters to describe how artists can depict light and shadow in artwork of different landscapes and a template to select and record a view of the school to use when producing a landscape painting at a specific time of the day.
The interactive presentation can be used to explore how to create a painting of the school’s landscape using colour shades to reflect a special time of the day.
This lesson is part of an art and design scheme of work to get the children to develop and practise different painting techniques when creating a landscape portraying a scene in the local area as part of the school neighbourhood. There are teaching activities for shared learning, differentiated worksheets to support independent learning and interactive presentations to introduce concepts and key skills.
