Lesson Six – Landscape Reviews

This art and design teaching pack for Key Stage Two gets the children to investigate how to review and suggest improvements to landscape paintings in terms of the use of light and shadow that can be worked with to depict a special time of the day.
The class can suggest and model how colour and light might be improved in artwork to better represent a specific time of the day in artwork of the school’s landscape.

Activities in this teaching pack include display posters to describe how artists can depict light and shadow in artwork of different landscapes and suggest how to make a range of different comments to evaluate a painting of the school’s landscape and a worksheet to compare landscape paintings that illustrate a time of the day and suggest ways to improve the depiction of the sunrise or sunset.
The interactive presentation can be used to explore how to review and suggest improvements to landscape paintings in terms of the use of light and shadow.
This lesson is part of an art and design scheme of work to get the children to develop and practise different painting techniques when creating a landscape portraying a scene in the local area as part of the school neighbourhood. There are teaching activities for shared learning, differentiated worksheets to support independent learning and interactive presentations to introduce concepts and key skills.
