Lesson Six – Vehicle Building

This design technology teaching pack for Key Stage One gets the children to explain and model how to construct and test a toy vehicle that includes a movement mechanism produced by combining a range of different materials.
The class can evaluate the completed toy vehicles against the selected success criteria and suggest improvements to the movement mechanisms used in their designs.
Download this teaching pack including a lesson plan, classroom activities and an interactive presentation to explain and model how to construct and test a toy vehicle that includes a movement mechanism produced by combining a range of different materials
Activities in this teaching pack include display posters to identify the best materials to use for some of the different parts of a toy vehicle and a worksheet to test and evaluate a model of a vehicle that includes a movement mechanism against selected success criteria.
The interactive presentation can be used to explore how to construct and test a toy vehicle that includes a movement mechanism produced by combining different materials.
This lesson is part of a design technology scheme of work to get the children to select and combine a range of different materials to make a model of a toy vehicle with a movement mechanism to match chosen success criteria. There are teaching activities for shared learning, differentiated worksheets to support independent learning and interactive presentations to introduce concepts and key skills.
