Unit E – Addition Exchange
This maths scheme of work for Key Stage Two gets the children to practise using mental and written methods to add three digit numbers with one, two and three digit numbers with exchange between place value. The class can model how the digits change for each addition calculation.

Lesson One : Number Jumps
Practise using number lines to illustrate and record how to add three digit numbers and ones by counting forward in different steps to the nearest multiple of one hundred and ten
Lesson Two : Passenger Numbers
Explain and model how to use concrete equipment, pictorial diagrams and columnar addition methods to add pairs of three and two digit numbers not crossing one hundred
Lesson Three : Sum Corrections
Identify and describe how to use an expanded method of addition calculation to add different pairs of three digit numbers with exchange between place value
Lesson Four : Sweetshop
Practise using columnar addition to add pairs of three digit numbers to calculate sweets for sale in a shop including using exchange between place value to complete each calculation
Lesson Five : Sum Errors
Identify and correct some different errors in example columnar addition calculations when working with pairs of three digit numbers
