Lesson Six – Farm Routes

This geography teaching pack for Key Stage One gets the children to practise using the four points of the compass to describe some of the different routes and locations that could be made around a farm.

The class can model how to make a map of farm and record how a farmer could move between different places on a farm using the four points of the compass.

Activities in this teaching pack include a display poster to identify the four points of the compass to use when describing routes around a farm, a set of cards to build a map showing the locations of different buildings and animals that can be found on a farm and a template to record the position of different places that can be found on a farm using the four points of the compass.

The interactive presentation gets the children to explore how to use the four points of the compass to describe routes and locations that could be made around a farm.

This lesson is part of a geography scheme of work to get the children to identify, describe and compare the location and function of farms in relation to other places and activities including food production using crops and animals. There are teaching activities for shared learning, differentiated worksheets to support independent learning and interactive presentations to introduce concepts and key skills.
