Lesson One – Santa’s Workshop

This literacy teaching pack for the Foundation Stage gets the children to identify and make lists of jobs and instructions that the elves might need to follow when making toys at the North Pole ready for Christmas.
The class can select and record illustrations and write simple sentences to show some of the different tools and equipment used by the elves when building a range of toys.

Activities in this teaching pack include display posters to identify some of the different objects that can be used for cleaning and construction at the North Pole, a set of cards to identify instructions that the elves might need to follow when making toys at the North Pole and a template to record what the elves might need to use when working at the North Pole.
The interactive presentation gets the children to explore how to make lists of jobs and instructions that the elves might need to follow when making toys at the North Pole.
This lesson is part of a literacy scheme of work to get the children to record and sequence recounts to describe the activities of characters who live and work at the North Pole including Santa Claus, the elves and the reindeer. There are teaching activities for shared learning, differentiated worksheets to support independent learning and interactive presentations to introduce concepts and key skills.
