Lesson Five – Seed Dispersal

This science teaching pack for Key Stage Two gets the children to explore how to collect and record evidence to show some of the special ways that different seeds can be dispersed from the mother plant.
The class can practise using a table to sort information that they have identified and observed about seed dispersal from different plants for wind, explosion and by animal methods.
Download this teaching pack including a lesson plan, classroom activities and an interactive presentation to explore how to collect and record evidence to show some of the special ways that different seeds can be dispersed from the mother plant
Activities in this teaching pack include display posters to identify and describe ways that different seeds are dispersed from the mother plant and a worksheet to collect and sort seeds to observe and record how they are dispersed away from the mother plant.
The interactive presentation can be used to explore how to record evidence to show some of the different ways that seeds are dispersed from the mother plant.
This lesson is part of a science scheme of work to get the children to investigate and record the life cycle of plants as they grow from seeds or bulbs into different flowers and identify the factors that can affect their growth. There are teaching activities for shared learning, differentiated worksheets to support independent learning and interactive presentations to introduce concepts and key skills.
-
School Grounds
Explain and model how to measure and calculate the perimeters and areas of different shaped locations around the school grounds
-
Rainforest Presentations
Select, manipulate and combine different forms of media to create a multimedia presentation about an aspect of life in a rainforest habitat
-
Flag Printing
Practise and refine different techniques when printing colours, shapes and patterns to design flags to match specific locations
-
Angle Observations
Identify, locate and classify examples of right, acute and obtuse angles that can be observed in a range of different shapes, objects and locations
