Lesson One – Architecture

This history teaching pack for Key Stage Two gets the children to identify, describe and compare examples of some modern, Victorian and Ancient Greek construction styles that were used for a range of different types of buildings.
The class can record some special column constructions for a new library building using the classical Greek building styles that were used to construct buildings in a Greek state.

Activities in this teaching pack include display posters to identify and describe how some Victorian buildings were designed and constructed using examples from Ancient Greece, a worksheet to record the design for a building using Ancient Greek construction styles and themes and a template to compare examples of Ancient Greek building styles for temple columns.
The interactive presentation can be used to explore how to identify, describe and compare modern, Victorian and Ancient Greek building and construction styles.
This lesson is part of a history scheme of work to get the children to investigate the growth and development of the Ancient Greek civilization including architecture, education and government and explore how these features impact the modern world. There are teaching activities for shared learning, differentiated worksheets to support independent learning and interactive presentations to introduce concepts and key skills.
