Lesson Six – Elgin Marbles

This history teaching pack for Key Stage Two gets the children to investigate how to debate the collection and use of some of the different historical artefacts that were taken from Ancient Greece by other countries in the past.

The class can compose and present speeches outlining some of the arguments for and against why the Elgin marbles should or should not be returned to Greece.

Activities in this teaching pack include a shared reading text to identify and describe how historical artefacts from Ancient Greece can be used and protected and a template to compose a speech to argue whether the Elgin marbles should be returned to Greece.

The interactive presentation can be used to explore how to debate the collection and use of some of the different historical artefacts that were taken from Ancient Greece.
