Lesson Four – Journey to the Afterlife

This history teaching pack for Key Stage Two gets the children to explore, record and dramatise some of the special beliefs about death and the afterlife that were held by members of the Ancient Egyptian civilization in the past.
The class can produce and perform dramas to illustrate and model what the Ancient Egyptians believed happened after the death of a pharaoh when they were placed into a pyramid’s tomb.

Activities in this teaching pack include display posters to explain some the beliefs of the Ancient Egyptians reflected in paintings visible in tombs and describe and sequence the steps in the journey to the afterlife in Ancient Egypt and a shared reading text about the weighing of the heart ceremony to help dramatise the beliefs of the Ancient Egyptians about the after life.
The interactive presentation can be used to explore and dramatise some of the Ancient Egyptians beliefs about death and the afterlife in the past.
This lesson is part of a history scheme of work to get the children to explore how and why the Ancient Egyptians constructed and used different pyramids and tombs to reflect their beliefs about the afterlife. There are teaching activities for shared learning, differentiated worksheets to support independent learning and interactive presentations to introduce concepts and key skills.
