Lesson Three – Sentence Extensions

This English teaching pack for Key Stage Two gets the children to practise using a range of different conjunctions to extend sentences about some of the special places that feature in a story by adding extra clauses.

The class can identify and model how to compose different sentences that might be used when describing a particular setting in a story to advance the plot.

Activities in this teaching pack include a differentiated set of worksheets to select and replace adjectives that can be used to complete sentences about a story setting including using the conjunction and for support ability levels and the conjunction although for core and extension ability levels when adding extra clauses.

The interactive presentation gets the children to explore how to use a range of different conjunctions to extend sentences by adding extra clauses.

This lesson is part of an English scheme of work to get the children to investigate narrative techniques used by authors to describe story settings, practise building words by adding the suffix ed to words with stressed final syllables and extend sentences using conjunctions. There are teaching activities for shared learning, differentiated worksheets to support independent learning and interactive presentations to introduce concepts and key skills.
