Unit C – Story Plots

This English scheme of work for Key Stage Two gets the children to investigate how authors use different settings, characters and events to advance the plot in a story, practise adding the suffixes able and ible to word roots and write complex sentences incorporating punctuation and conjunctions.

Lesson One : Word Match
Identify and record a selection of different words that contain the suffixes able and ible that match their correct written definitions

Lesson Two : Sentence Extensions
Select and add relative clauses, fronted adverbials and conjunctions using commas to extend a range of sentences from different story genres

Lesson Three : Story Sentences
Practise modelling how to change a selection of sentences from different story genres by using fronted adverbials, relative clauses and conjunctions

Lesson Four : Story Map
Plan the sequence of events in a story to match the characters, settings and events that can be used in a mystery or science fiction genre to illustrate their special features

Lesson Five : Story Writing
Compose and publish a narrative story using characters, settings and events matching a specific story genre to illustrate its matching text features
