Family Issues

This English scheme of work for Key Stage Two gets the children to practise structuring and formatting a range of discussion texts to present arguments for or against issues that are important to a family. The class can identify special vocabulary and sentence structures that can be used when presenting viewpoints.

Chocolate Debate
Prepare and hold a class debate to identify and explain the benefits and disadvantages of eating chocolate for family snacks and meals

Circus Animals
Compose and present a discussion text to outline some of the different arguments that are for and against families visiting a circus with performing animals

Pet Ownership
Research and present a range of arguments for and against the issue of pet ownership to publish in a magazine article for families to decide whether they wish to keep a pet

Times Tables Division
Practise using facts in each of the times tables to support the division of pairs of numbers when solving a range of problems

Football Teams
Investigate and record how to format and structure letters that could be sent to and from football teams for different purposes and functions

Practise composing and publishing letters to different members in the school community for a range of functions and purposes

Identify, group and compare some of the different plants and animals that live in a variety of habitats around the world
