Lesson Two – Helmet Design

This art and design teaching pack for Key Stage Two gets the children to explore how to identify and record how to produce a model of an astronaut’s space helmet when shaping and combing a range of different materials.

The class can explain and model some of the special ways of working with different materials to produce a real world object with a specific function.

Download this teaching pack including a lesson plan, classroom activities and an interactive presentation to explore how to identify and record how to produce a model of an astronaut’s space helmet when shaping and combing a range of different materials

Activities in this teaching pack include display posters to identify and describe how to use different materials when producing a model of an astronaut’s space helmet and a table display card to record ideas for a work of art when shaping and combining materials to make a real world object.

The interactive presentation can be used to explore and record how to produce a model of an astronaut’s space helmet using a range of different materials.

This lesson is part of an art and design scheme of work to get the children to select, shape and combine different mouldable materials to make a model of an astronaut’s helmet that could be worn when exploring space. There are teaching activities for shared learning, differentiated worksheets to support independent learning and interactive presentations to introduce concepts and key skills.
