Lesson Five – Textures and Colours

This art and design teaching pack for Key Stage Two gets the children to explore how to finish building and completing a model of an astronaut’s space helmet by adding some different textures and colours.

The class can explain and illustrate how to finish their models so that it is a realistic example of a helmet that an astronaut could wear when travelling and working in space.

Download this teaching pack including a lesson plan, classroom activities and an interactive presentation to explore how to finish building and completing a model of an astronaut’s space helmet by adding some different textures and colours

Activities in this teaching pack include display posters to identify and explain how to add finishing touches to a work of art of an astronaut’s space helmet and a worksheet to follow a set of instructions about how to complete a model of a space helmet by adding finishing touches.

The interactive presentation can be used to explore how to complete a model of an astronaut’s space helmet by adding different textures and colours.

This lesson is part of an art and design scheme of work to get the children to select, shape and combine different mouldable materials to make a model of an astronaut’s helmet that could be worn when exploring space. There are teaching activities for shared learning, differentiated worksheets to support independent learning and interactive presentations to introduce concepts and key skills.
