Lesson One – River Paintings

This art and design teaching pack for Key Stage Two gets the children to explore and describe how a range of significant artists have used colour shades to suggest different times of the day in paintings of river views.

The class can practise sketching some of the different features and techniques that artists have used in their paintings showing what might be seen alongside and on a river.

Activities in this teaching pack include display posters to identify and describe how different artists have depicted rivers in their artwork and a table display card to investigate and and describe some of the themes and ideas that have been expressed and illustrated in paintings of river scenes.

The interactive presentation can be used to explore and describe how artists use a range of colours to suggest different times of the day in paintings.

This lesson is part of an art and design scheme of work to get the children to explore and emulate techniques used by significant artists working in paint to create impressions of reflections seen in different bodies of water.
