Lesson One – Statues and Tombs

This art and design teaching pack for Key Stage Two gets the children to investigate, describe and record some of the different shapes and patterns that were added to artefacts used by the Ancient Egyptians.
The class can produce sketches to collect ideas representing life in the Ancient Egyptian civilization as shown on a selection of different artefacts from the time period.

Activities in this teaching pack include display posters to identify and describe shapes and patterns used on different sculptures from Ancient Egypt and a table display card to investigate some of the shapes and patterns seen on historical objects from Ancient Egypt.
The interactive presentation can be used to explore some of the different shapes and patterns that were used on Ancient Egyptian artefacts.
This lesson is part of an art and design scheme of work to get the children to design and produce tiles that can represent Ancient Egyptian culture and traditions by adding shapes, patterns and attachments to clay models. There are teaching activities for shared learning, differentiated worksheets to support independent learning and interactive presentations to introduce concepts and key skills.
