Lesson Four – Tile Design

This art and design teaching pack for Key Stage Two gets the children to select and design shapes and patterns that can be used on a clay tile to reflect some of the customs and traditions of the Ancient Egyptian civilization.
The class can explain and model how to make impressions and add attachments to produce their clay tile to show an aspect of life from a time period in the past.

Activities in this teaching pack include display posters to identify and describe shapes, colours and patterns used on different Ancient Egyptian artefacts and a template to sketch the design for a clay artefact to reflect the customs and traditions of Ancient Egypt.
The interactive presentation can be used to explore the design for shapes and patterns to use on a clay tile to reflect the customs and traditions of Ancient Egypt.
This lesson is part of an art and design scheme of work to get the children to design and produce tiles that can represent Ancient Egyptian culture and traditions by adding shapes, patterns and attachments to clay models. There are teaching activities for shared learning, differentiated worksheets to support independent learning and interactive presentations to introduce concepts and key skills.
