Lesson Three – Number Splits

This maths teaching pack for Key Stage One gets the children to identify and record the matching pairs of different numbers that can be combined together to use when making sums to ten.
The class can explain and model how to work with concrete equipment to split a number sum into pairs of number groups to show the selected addition equations for each of the number bonds to ten.
Download this teaching pack including a lesson plan, classroom activities and an interactive presentation to identify and record the matching pairs of different numbers that can be combined together to use when making sums to ten
Activities in this teaching pack include a set of differentiated worksheets to record how to add pairs of numbers that make different sums to five for support ability levels, to ten for core ability levels and to twenty for extension ability levels when combining groups of numbers.
The interactive presentation gets the children to explore how to record matching pairs of numbers that can be combined to make different sums to ten.
This lesson is part of a maths scheme of work to get the children to use concrete equipment, diagrams and informal calculations to identify, match and record different pairs of numbers that make matching sums to ten. There are teaching activities for shared learning, differentiated worksheets to support independent learning and interactive presentations to introduce concepts and key skills.
