Lesson Five – Shopping Area

This history teaching pack for Key Stage One gets the children to practise identifying and describing some of the improvements and changes that have been made to shops that can be found in the local area.
The class can explain and model how to explore life in the past by using historical photographs to identify any changes and developments to shop locations and buildings.

Activities in this teaching pack include display posters to describe the function and age of different shops using primary sources and a template to select and record information about some of the changes and improvements that have happened to a shop in the local area.
The interactive presentation can be used to explore and describe some of the improvements and changes that have been made to shops in the local area.
This lesson is part of a history scheme of work to get the children to identify, describe and compare some of the changes to different buildings that have occurred in the school’s neighbourhood over time. There are teaching activities for shared learning, differentiated worksheets to support independent learning and interactive presentations to introduce concepts and key skills.
