Local Shops

This curriculum topic scheme of work for the Foundation Stage gets the children to explore the locations and functions of different shops that can be found in the local area and identify and compare products that are sold in each shop. The class can make models to role-play shopping for items to match a range of purposes.

Identify, describe and compare some of different types of shops that can be found in the local area

Lesson Two : Shopping Lists
Identify and record lists of different items that can be bought at shops in the local area

Lesson Three : Bakery
Identify and record the range of products that can be bought at a bakery close to the school

Lesson Four : Greengrocer
Identify, describe and list some of the different products that can be sold in a greengrocers’ shop in the local area

Lesson Five : Newsagent
Select and design different products that could be sold in a newsagent shop in the local area

Lesson Six : Shopping Trip
Choose and make models of some of the different items that can be sold in shops in the local area

Identify, describe and compare the sequences of geometric shapes that have been used to create a range of different patterns
