Lesson Three – Castle Jobs

This history teaching pack for Key Stage One gets the children to identify, record and describe some of the different jobs and actions that took place in a castle in the past to look after the lord and lady.

The class can model and record how to write a diary entry as a castle cook describing their roles and responsibilities when working in a castle to prepare foods for the inhabitants.

Activities in this teaching pack include shared reading texts to describe some of the jobs that were performed in a castle in the past, a vocabulary word bank to use when writing a diary to describe a type of job that was performed in a castle in the past and a template to structure and format a diary entry to describe one job that was performed in a castle by one of the servants to the lord and lady.

The interactive presentation gets the children to some of the different jobs and actions that took place in a castle in the past to look after the lord and lady.

This lesson is part of a history scheme of work to get the children to identify, describe and record some of the special ways that castles were built and inhabited by different groups of people in the past. There are teaching activities for shared learning, differentiated worksheets to support independent learning and interactive presentations to introduce concepts and key skills.
