Buses and Trains

This English teaching pack for Key Stage One gets the children to select descriptive vocabulary words that can be used to edit and change a poem about some of the different journeys that can taken by families using buses and trains.
The class can record lists of vocabulary words to describe the sights and sounds that might be seen and heard on a bus or train journey to add to their poems.

Activities in this teaching pack include a shared reading text to identify and define vocabulary used to describe sounds that might be heard on a bus journey, a vocabulary word bank to select special words to describe the sights and sounds of a journey to use when composing lines for a poem and templates to structure a poem about a bus or train journey.
The interactive presentation gets the children to explore how to edit and change a poem about different journeys made using buses and trains.
This lesson is part of an English scheme of work to get the children to practise selecting powerful vocabulary words to use in poems that can describe some of the journeys made by families using different types of transport. There are teaching activities for shared learning, differentiated worksheets to support independent learning and interactive presentations to introduce concepts and key skills.
