Lesson Three – Cargo Labels

This computing teaching pack for Key Stage One gets the children to investigate how to produce and change a selection of word processed labels to identify some of the special materials and objects transported as cargo on ships and boats.

The class can suggest and work with the best font styles to produce labels for cargo carried by a ship or boat so that the label can be read easily and understood by harbour users.

Download this teaching pack including a lesson plan, classroom activities and an interactive presentation to investigate how to produce and change a selection of word processed labels to identify some of the special materials and objects transported as cargo on ships and boats

Activities in this teaching pack include display posters to identify effective labels that can be used for cargoes carried on board ships or boats, a set of cards to produce labels using text and graphics to record cargo materials and objects and a worksheet to change the font colours, sizes and styles of labels used to name materials and objects carried on board a ship or boat.

The interactive presentation can be used to explore how to produce and change a selection of word processed labels to identify materials and objects transported by ships and boats.

This lesson is part of a computing scheme of work to get the children to practise structuring and formatting different word processed documents to describe a range of ships and boats seen in a harbour. There are teaching activities for shared learning, differentiated worksheets to support independent learning and interactive presentations to introduce concepts and key skills.
