Unit F – Measurement
This numeracy scheme of work for the Foundation Stage gets the children to practise and model different ways of measuring and comparing the length, height, volume, capacity and mass of objects using counting skills. The class can identify and explain how to use non-standard measurements to compare objects.
Practise and model different ways of measuring and comparing the length, height, volume, capacity and mass of different objects by using counting skills
Lesson One : Classroom Heights
Investigate and practise different ways of comparing the height of classroom objects using non-standard measurements
Lesson Two : Cube Towers
Measure and compare the height of objects using non-standard measurements for numbers of cubes built into tower shapes
Lesson Three : Container Volumes
Estimate, measure and compare the number of objects that can fill different containers that might be used in the classroom
Lesson Four : Vessel Capacities
Identify and compare the capacities of different sized vessels and containers using special vocabulary and by counting cubes
Lesson Five : Comparing Masses
Use non-standard measurements to estimate, describe and compare the mass of different objects used in the classroom
-
Animal Sizes
Practise using the correct vocabulary words to identify and describe the sizes of different animals that live in the world
-
Animal Words
Identify and match sets of statements to describe the sizes of a range of different animals using the vocabulary words of bigger and smaller
-
Animal Lengths
Identify and match sets of statements to describe the length of a range of different animals using the vocabulary words of longer and shorter
-
Animal Heights
Identify and match sets of statements to describe the height of a range of different animals using the vocabulary words of taller and shorter
