Lesson One – Story Places

This literacy teaching pack for the Foundation Stage gets the children to identify, define and list special vocabulary words that can be used to describe some of the settings that feature in a traditional story.
The class can select and match sets of cvc words that begin with the same initial sounds for different letters of the alphabet to use when describing a range of story places.

Activities in this teaching pack include a shared reading text to identify the sequence of events and describe characters and settings in a traditional story and sets of cards to match sets of cvc words that begin with the same initial sounds and record lists of different objects and words with matching initial sounds.
The interactive presentation gets the children to explore vocabulary words that can be used to describe some of the settings that feature in a traditional story.
This lesson is part of a literacy scheme of work to get the children to explore and role-play the sequence of events and language used in a traditional poem and investigate and spell cvc words with the same initial sounds. There are teaching activities for shared learning, differentiated worksheets to support independent learning and interactive presentations to introduce concepts and key skills.
