Lesson Three – Butterfly Life Cycle

This curriculum topic teaching pack for the Foundation Stage gets the children to explore and illustrate the sequence of steps to show how caterpillars can change into butterflies using the process of metamorphosis.

Activities in this teaching pack include display posters to identify and describe the life cycle of a butterfly using the process of metamorphosis and a template to select and record some of the special shapes, colours and patterns that might be seen on a butterfly.
The interactive presentation gets the children to explore and illustrate the sequence of how caterpillars change into butterflies using the process of metamorphosis.
This lesson is part of a curriculum topic scheme of work to get the children to Investigate, describe and compare some of the different butterflies that can be found living in a garden area in the school grounds. There are teaching activities for shared learning, differentiated worksheets to support independent learning and interactive presentations to introduce concepts and key skills.
