Lesson Two – Size Words
This English teaching pack for Key Stage One gets the children to select and order a selection of vocabulary words that could be used in noun phrases in sentences to describe the sizes of different animals.
The class can identify and define some of the special vocabulary words that can be used in a poem to describe different parts of an animal and their habitat.

Activities in this teaching pack include a shared reading text to identify and define special vocabulary words used in a poem to describe different parts of an animal, a set of cards to select and group matching synonyms for words that can be used to describe the sizes of different animals and a worksheet to list matching synonyms for words that can be used to describe how animals are the same or different.
The interactive presentation gets the children to explore how to order vocabulary words that could be used in noun phrases to describe the sizes of different animals.
This lesson is part of an English scheme of work to get the children to investigate some of the special words used to describe different types of wild animals in poems with patterned language. There are teaching activities for shared learning, differentiated worksheets to support independent learning and interactive presentations to introduce concepts and key skills.
