Lesson One – Books and Websites

This computing teaching pack for Key Stage Two gets the children to identify, describe and compare some of the different ways that information is presented and organised on websites and in books about rainforests.
The class can explain and model how they can retrieve information and facts using either books or websites on the same topic or theme to answer some key questions.

Activities in this teaching pack include display posters to explain how to conduct research using books or websites to answer key questions about the rainforest and a template to evaluate and record observations about the range of media used in different websites about aspects of life in a rainforest.

This lesson is part of a computing scheme of work to get the children to select, manipulate and combine different forms of media to create a multimedia presentation about an aspect of life in a rainforest habitat. There are teaching activities for shared learning, differentiated worksheets to support independent learning and interactive presentations to introduce concepts and key skills.
