Lesson Two – Castle Locations
This history teaching pack for Key Stage One gets the children to explore how to research and record some of the best locations that could be used for the site of a castle building in the past to provide protection for the inhabitants.
The class can write an explanation as to why a castle should be built in a specific location such as close to a river for a source of water or on top of a hill to make it difficult to attack.

Activities in this teaching pack include a display poster to identify and describe the best location to build a castle, a shared reading text to explore why a castle could be built in different places, a template to write a speech to explain the best location that can be used for a castle building and a set of cards to match reasons as to why a castle should be built in a range of places.
