Lesson Six – Castle Testing

This design technology teaching pack for Key Stage One gets the children to test and review completed models of castles against selected success criteria for their construction such as for strength and stability.
The class can identify and describe changes and improvements to their models so that they provide better protection for the castle inhabitants from attack.
Download this teaching pack including a lesson plan, classroom activities and an interactive presentation to teach the children to test and review completed models of castles against selected success criteria for their construction such as for strength and stability
Activities in this teaching pack include display posters to identify and describe ways to improve a model of a castle to match success criteria and a template to identify and record improvements to a model of a castle to match success criteria.
The interactive presentation gets the children to explain how to test completed models of castles against selected success criteria for their construction.
This lesson is part of a design technology scheme of work to get the children to explore and model some of the different shapes and techniques that can be used to construct a model of a castle showing the main parts and their functions. There are teaching activities for shared learning, differentiated worksheets to support independent learning and interactive presentations to introduce concepts and key skills.
