This numeracy teaching pack for the Foundation Stage gets the children to measure and compare the height of objects using non-standard measurements for numbers of cubes built into tower shapes.

The class can identify and explain how to use counting skills to measure and compare the height of some of the different tools and equipment used in the classroom.

Download this teaching pack including a lesson plan, classroom activities and an interactive presentation to teach the children to measure and compare the height of objects using non-standard measurements for numbers of cubes built into tower shapes

Activities in this teaching pack include a set of activity cards to make comparisons between towers of cubes and other objects found around the classroom and a template to select and record lists of objects that are taller or shorter than another object

The interactive presentation gets the children to identify and explain how to compare the height of pairs of objects using non-standard measurements.

This lesson is part of a numeracy scheme of work to get the children to practise and model different ways of measuring and comparing the length, height, volume, capacity and mass of different objects by using counting skills. There are teaching activities for shared learning, differentiated worksheets to support independent learning and interactive presentations to introduce concepts and key skills.
