Lesson Three – Story Journeys

This literacy teaching pack for the Foundation Stage gets the children to suggest, describe and record some of the alternative events that might occur in a story based on the narrative sequence of a traditional tale.
The class can select and group matching sets of cvc words that begin with the same initial sounds that can be used in sentences related to the story of the Owl and the Pussycat.

Activities in this teaching pack include a shared reading text to identify the sequence of events and describe characters and settings in a traditional story, a template to record alternative events that might occur in a story based on the narrative of a traditional tale and a set of cards to select and group sets of vocabulary words that begin with the same initial sounds.
The interactive presentation gets the children to explore some of the alternative events that might occur in a story based on the narrative of a traditional tale.
This lesson is part of a literacy scheme of work to get the children to explore and role-play the sequence of events and language used in a traditional poem and investigate and spell cvc words with the same initial sounds. There are teaching activities for shared learning, differentiated worksheets to support independent learning and interactive presentations to introduce concepts and key skills.
